He was born in Athens, Greece in 1972. He was graduated by the University of Ioannina Medical School, Greece in 1996 (grade: excellent). He was trained as an Internist in the University Hospital of Ioannina, Greece (board qualification 2004-grade: excellent). He acquired his doctoral degree (PhD) by the University of Ioannina Medical School, Greece in 1996 (grade: excellent). He was specialised in lipid and metabolic disorders and cardiovascular disease prevention in the Royal Free Hospital, London, UK (2004-2005). He has been elected as Fellow of the American Society of Angiology (2004), Fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health (2005) and Fellow of American Society of Clinical Scientists (2007). He is currently an Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine in the University of Ioannina School of Health Sciences-Faculty of Medicine, Ioannina, Greece and a Consultant in Internal Medicine in the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine and Outpatient Lipid Clinic in the University Hospital of Ioannina, Greece. His main academic and clinical interests include the management of patients with dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension and other metabolic diseases. He has published over 180 papers in peer-reviewed journals with 3334 citations and an H factor of 32 on SCOPUS (5/8/2014). He is a member of 14 scientific societies and member of the executive committee of 2 scientific societies. He has given over 250 talks on topics related to cardiovascular disease prevention. He has acted as a referee for over 30 international journals and he is an Associate Editor for 3 journals and a member of the Editorial Board of 3 other journals. He has participated as a subinvestigator in at least 18 international studies and he is currently the National Coordinator for Greece for the ODYSSEY-OUTCOMES study.
